Chambers of Commerce in Finland are voluntary organisations consisting of companies working together to improve all areas of industrial and commercial life. The activities of the Chamber of Commerce are based on the Statute on the Chambers of Commerce. Turku Chamber of Commerce is founded in 1917 and it has approximately 1400 members.
The primary goal of the Chamber of Commerce is to foster industry and commerce and to promote the common interests of the companies within the respective area. In order to implement this goal, the Chamber of Commerce seeks to influence the authorities and the relevant legislation while at the same time promoting the interests of industrial and commercial life, developing the market economy and enhancing co-operation between industrial and commercial organisations and governmental agencies.
The Turku Chamber of Commerce area of operations comprises the province of Southwest Finland. The inhabitants in the province number 440 000 and its most important centres are Turku, Salo, Uusikaupunki, Loimaa, and Parainen. Southwest Finland is the second largest production area in the country and covers one tenth of the Finnish factory industry.
An important prerequisite for the positive development of Southwest Finland is creating an atmosphere which favours industrial and commercial life as well as administration and joint activities that are more flexible than the ones presently conducted. Issues related to a working market economy and the regulation of company activities are continuously dealt with in the statements and information policies of the Chamber of Commerce.
