The University of Latvia (UL) with its 13 faculties and more than 20 research institutes is the largest comprehensive university in the Baltic States. The University offers more than 150 state-accredited academic and professional study programmes. The University of Latvia is renowned for its research on Latvian studies, material science, information and communication technologies, process simulation and socio-economic as well as environmental and health problems of the transition period. At UL, research is conducted in over 50 research fields which represent 4 main areas of enquiry: the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and education sciences.
The Center for European and Transition Studies (CETS) is an institution within the UL established to promote and support multidisciplinary teaching for EU and non-EU students, academic and applied research in European Studies primarily encompassing economics, political science, law, public administration and regional science. CETS hosts Jean Monnet and Marie Curie projects, actively works on implementing international research and applied projects, participates in the Baltic Sea Region projects, as well as provides advice to public institutions on the economic and social development in the European integration context. CETS has cooperation with leading think tanks in Europe, cooperation with many universities in Europe and Canadian European Studies network.
